Ackerman Tweets: I'm Running

Democratic Rep. Gary Ackerman (Queens-Nassau) insists that he is running for re-election despite all the Republican talk about his imminent retirement.

The retirement speculation reached such a crescendo Tuesday that Ackerman was forced to send out a message on Twitter for the second time in three days saying that he is not retiring.

“Republican rumor mill is 100%, Absolutely Wrong,” he tweeted. “I’m running.”

Ackerman, 69, of Roslyn Heights has been a member of Congress since winning a special election in 1983.

A Revelation: Elaine Pagels and the Jewish Cult Behind the Book of Revelations

It can’t be said that no one pays any attention to scholarly books about the Bible.  After all, works by Robert Alter and Harold Bloom are often best-sellers.

'I Wanted To Vomit'

That’s the way I felt when I read that Rick Santorum said it sickened him to read John F. Kennedy’s speech on separation of church and state.  Interestingly he was silent about a similar speech by Ronald Reagan.

IVF And Religion

Some news reports over the weekend suggest that Pope Benedict has come out against in-vitro fertilization, when in truth that has been a longstanding policy of the church. What may be new was his emphatic rejection, in which he was quoted as saying it is “arrogant.”

For the first time , I’ve managed to see every one of the nominees for Best Picture. (Hey, the kids are grown up, and no reason to limit my nights at the theater to Pixar offerings).

Arab-American Paper Endorses Ron Paul

With three of the four leading Republican presidential contenders – Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich – running as strong supporters of Israel, it comes as no surprise that the Arab American News has endorsed Ron Paul in Tuesday’s Michigan primary.

The Big Smear

When Joseph P. Kennedy III announced his candidacy for Congress, an ultra-Orthodox Web commentator decided to portray him not as the grandson of Bobby Kennedy, who was assassinated by a Palestinian Arab for being too pro-Israel, but as the “Great grandson of Jew-hating Hitler admirer.”

That has to be the most outrageous example of hate speech I’ve seen in a long time.
