Photo Finish?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

In a previous post I wrote about the hundreds of photos in my basement and pondered what will one day become of them.

Now, the same question applies to some 30 years worth of photo prints, most of them black and white, that have accumulated in The Jewish Week’s office. The office manager wants to be rid of them to make more room. To me, it’s akin to forgetting history.

ADL report on “toxic atmosphere of rage” ignites…well, rage

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 Predictably, the right has gone ballistic over last week’s ADL report describing a  “toxic atmosphere of rage in America” and  tying that to the “birther” and “tea party” movements, this summer’s health  reform town meeting disruptions and some conservative talk show hosts.

Different actors, same script in latest Jerusalem building controversy

Haven't we seen this movie before?

The script goes like this: Washington objects to Israeli settlement  construction; there are some angry words on both sides, and then an apparent coming together around some vaguely defined, transparent face-saving compromise. Both sides insist there's no crisis in the relationship.

Breaking A Painful Silence

In this week’s paper, my mother, Sondra Hart Dickter, tells the story of her 25-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.
