The Younger the Better, Eh Gentlemen??

Can we talk a moment about men and that little thing called, “age discrimination?"

As in, the way so many single men seem to only want young women.

Notice I am only accusing “many” not “all” men. Which is another way of saying, all men. Or almost all men. Or most of the men out there except for the exceptions, of course.

Obama administration: asleep on issue of religious coercion in the military?

One thing I don't get about the Obama administration: why isn't it using its authority to clean out the religious fanatics who have made big inroads in using the U.S. military as a coercive mission field for evangelical Christians?

Oy Va Voy, I Lost My Mezuzah!

When I first started this blog back in March, my father, an avid blog consumer (though not of this one — his taste runs more to the neo-con political ones), e-mailed me that, “The first rule of blogging, you should know, is POSTING SOMETHING EVERY DAY.”

Sorry, Dad, I’ve come nowhere near complying with this rule, especially in the last few weeks. Hopefully this won’t be as great a disappointment as my rejection 21 years ago from Yale or my failure to pursue a  more stable and lucrative career.

Judge blocks Obama administration stem cell funding, Jewish groups angry

A couple of Jewish groups have weighed in – angrily – on the federal judge who blocked the Obama administration's decision to fund embryonic stem cell research.

Obama acted in 2009 after legislation that would allow federal stem cell funding was vetoed twice by former President George W. Bush. Christian groups filed suit against the Obama guidelines, saying it would result in the destruction of human embryos.

Churchill and The Jews: A Curious Match

Reading Adam Gopnik's superb essay on Winston Churchill in the latest New Yorker, makes you wonder what Churchill actually thought about Jews. That question seemed about settled when Martin Gilbert, Churchill's official biographer and a leading British historian, published "Churchill and The Jews: A Lifelong Friendship" in 2007.

Obama A Muslim? Is Rev. Wright His Imam?

Let me get this straight: about one in five Americans think President Obama is a Muslim. And yet the biggest controversy during his presidential campaign was over the perceived influence that his spiritual leader had on him, that leader of course being Rev. Jeremiah Wright of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

So which is it, folks? Are we worried that the president is a Muslim following Islamic law or that he is/was under the spell of a Christian preacher?

Pew poll: Bad news for Jewish Democrats? It's complicated.

Jewish Democrats don't seem to be hitting any panic buttons in the wake of last week's Pew Center poll suggesting a significant shift of Jewish voters to the GOP side of the aisle just three months before critical midterm elections – the same poll that shows that only 34 percent of Americans now believe President Obama is a Christian.<

In the World of Dating, How the Heck Do You Get to "I-Thou?"

Because I got to yoga a little early, the religious guys were still there.

You see, the class before mine is exclusively for “fervently orthodox men.”  They’re American, and baalei teshuva and embody this weird combination of a modern, American sensibility with this newfound holiness.

Not that I’m saying they are holy men, only that they are always looking at the world through the lens of Torah, and by that I mean of G-dliness.

RLUIPA, religious freedom and the New York Islamic center

It's pretty interesting how some of the Jewish groups that have been so hot over the years to prevent local governments from impinging on the right of Jews to build synagogues without government interference are now silent in the face of the effort to block the “ground zero” mosque in lower Manhattan.

Obama Is A Muslim If Disraeli Was A Jew

Benjamin Disraeli was born of a Jewish father but was baptized and had a Christian upbringing, joining the Church as an adult. The prime minister didn't practice Judaism.

Barack Obama was born of an Islamic father but, after some grade-school Islamic education, had a Christian upbringing, joining the Church as an adult. The president doesn't practice Islam.
