Pascrell Defeats Shmuley Boteach In Northern NJ Race

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach won't be giving up his writing career for a stint on Capitol Hill.

Incumbent Democrat Rep. Bill Pascrell was projected the winner in New Jersey's 9th Congressional District Tuesday night with 77 percent of the vote with just 26 percent of the vote counted, according to North Jersey.com as of 10 p.m.

"I bow to the majesty of the democratic process," Rabbi Boteach told The Jewish Week in a telephone interview shortly after his concession speech. "Bill Pascrell is my congressman."

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach: "The journey has been a tremendous one."

Adelsons Donate Another $500K To Super PAC Supporting Boteach For Congress

Casino magnate Sheldon Adelson and his wife for a second time have given $500,000 to a Super PAC supporting Rabbi Shmuley Boteach's bid for Congress.

The Adelsons gave the money to the Patriot Prosperity PAC, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people with knowledge of the gift, after having given the same amount earlier this year. They also gave $10,000 directly to the Boteach campaign.

Boteach is running as the Republican candidate in New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District against eight-term incumbent Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.).

Pascrell Defeats Rothman In North Jersey Primary

 Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.), a veteran Jewish member of the U.S. House of Representatives, lost his primary election bid against another incumbent, Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.).

Rothman, who has served the 9th district in northeastern New Jersey since 1997, conceded late Tuesday night. He said he would not run for political office in the foreseeable future.

Pascrell now faces celebrity author Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, who won the Republican nomination on Tuesday.
