The closure of Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport for several hours Tuesday because Hamas rockets had targeted it forced BBYO to cancel its Israeli tour for two groups of teenagers who had already arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport.

Two groups of teenagers were at John F. Kennedy Airport Tuesday preparing to board a flight to Israel on a BBYO-organized tour when the organization decided at the last moment to delay the trips because of the rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip, The Jewish Week has learned.

They could have been sitting by the pool or shopping at the mall, but 67 high school students from across the country were in Midtown on a sweltering late-July day working on business plans for mock restaurants and Laundromat businesses they were trying to get off the ground.
Like contestants on “The Apprentice,” they were trying to impress a discerning panel of judges, this one from a Baruch College entrepreneurial center addressing considerations like target demographics, marketing strategies and expenses such as salaries, insurance, utilities and upkeep.

When it comes to Jewish prayer, there are two schools of thought: keva and kavannah. Keva means "rote" and refers to the fixed prayers that are set forth in the siddur (Jewish prayer book), while kavvanah is the free and spontaneous inner devotion of the individual.
