Barack's Chanukah Gifts For Bibi

Chanukah came early for Bibi Netanyahu this year when Barack Obama gave him a very big gift he's always craved and the promise of another.

Just before Bibi arrived for his first White House meeting since he launched his bungled attempt to block the Iran nuclear agreement, senior administration officials told reporters that the President was throwing in the towel on efforts to broker a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians for the remaining 14 months of Obama's term.

Can Bibi Repair Rift With Obama?

I've been unable to find another instance when an American political party allied itself so closely with a friendly foreign government for the purpose of defeating the policy of an American administration.

There has been no more outspoken foe of the Iran nuclear deal backed by the Obama administration than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, nor has there ever been a leader of an American ally who has plunged so deeply and so blatantly into domestic partisan American politics.

The Incredibly Shrinking Tent

The GOP has long boasted of being a big open tent but it seems to be shrinking quite a bit lately thanks to the "keep out" signs being posted by some of its presidential contenders and leading figures.

Trump Proves He's No Mensch

Sen. John McCain may have been in a tough political fight with Barack Obama in 2008 but that didn't prevent him from showing what a real mensch he is by putting down a supporter who claimed the Democratic candidate was an Arab.

Bibi To Meet Obama, Putin

The White House announced today that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet President Obama at the White House on November 9. they will discuss boosting military aid to Israel and then engage in a lot of empty talk about peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

But first Netanyahu is going to Moscow next week to tell President Vladimir Putin that Russia's increased military presence in Syria and attempts to shore up the Assad regime pose "security" threats to Israel.

Bibi's Dangerous Legacy

The bitter and divisive battle being led by Bibi Netanyahu will likely fail to block the Iran nuclear agreement but it could well succeed in doing what the Iranians and the Arabs only dreamed of:  irreparable damage to Israel and to the American Jewish community.

Much of the community leadership here is marching in lock-step behind Netanyahu and his Republican allies, leaving far behind a rank and file that doesn’t share their opposition to the deal or their vehement disdain for President Barack Obama.

22 Questions

There are valid arguments to be made both for and against the Iran nuclear agreement, but it is sometimes hard to tell because the debate is too often being drowned out by an excess of political obfuscation.

My Predictions For Iran Agreement

This much is certain regardless of the contents of the agreement being drafted in Vienna.  As soon as the white smoke wafts out of the Palais Coburg chimney:

1.     Iran will declare victory. The government needs it at home to rally public opinion and to counter pressure from the hardliners. It also knows how much any boasting irritates its enemies, especially in Israel, Saudi Arabia and the GOP{.

Bibi's Costly Feud

Bibi's Costly Feud

No issue is more critical for Israel right now than the nuclear agreement with Iran, yet Benjamin Netanyahu has squandered any influence he may have had in shaping the administration's positions by mounting a full frontal assault on the integrity and intentions of the American president and by colluding with a GOP leadership determined to use the issue as one more weapon in their anti-Obama campaign.
