Rep. Steve Rothman (D-N.J.), a veteran Jewish member of the U.S. House of Representatives, lost his primary election bid against another incumbent, Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.).

Rothman, who has served the 9th district in northeastern New Jersey since 1997, conceded late Tuesday night. He said he would not run for political office in the foreseeable future.

Pascrell now faces celebrity author Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, who won the Republican nomination on Tuesday.

Will Assemblyman Rory Lancman be the Democrat who can recapture New York’s once-safe 9th District from the Republicans? Or will he be the latest Queens Jewish politician to fall to formidable freshman Bob Turner?

Assemblyman Rory Lancman, left, is exploring a run against freshman Republican Rep. Bob Turner.

Turner Gets Foreign Affairs Seat

Rep. Bob Turner, the newly minted Republican congressman from New York's 9th District, is also the newest member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) chairman of the committee, praised him as "outspoken in his support for our key ally, Israel, and a strong opponent of the unilateral Palestinian scheme to seize statehood at the United Nations."
